Burton Snowboard is expending but don't say it too loud!

Snowboard bohemoth Burton has expanded its reach into the skate market, yesterday acquiring DNA Distribution for an undisclosed sum. DNA includes the brands Alien Workshop, Reflex and Habitat, which offer both hard- and softgoods for the skateboarding market.

DNA will remain at its headquarters in Dayton, Ohio, and CEO and Co-founder Chris Carter will continue to head up the division.

In recent seasons, the Burlington, Vt.-based Burton has been expanding beyond its snowboarding roots. In June 2006, the company acquired Santa Barbara-based Channel Islands Surfboards, landing it in the surf market. In a statement, Burton CEO said, “This acquisition completes a strategy that we have been very focused on for quite some time and marks a new milestone in the evolution of Burton and its family of brands.”
