Blood Diamond

It's been a long time since a movie touched me but tonight I was watching Blood Diamond and it did... So go to the cinema next to you to have a look...

"Set against the backdrop of the chaos and civil war that enveloped 1990s Sierra Leone, "Blood Diamond" is the story of Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio), an ex-mercenary from Zimbabwe, and Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou), a Mende fisherman. Both men are African, but their histories and their circumstances are as different as any can be until their fates become joined in a common quest to recover a rare pink diamond, the kind of stone that can transform a life...or end it.

Solomon, who has been taken from his family and forced to work in the diamond fields, finds the extraordinary gem and hides it at great risk, knowing if he is discovered, he will be killed instantly. But he also knows the diamond could not only provide the means to save his wife and daughters from a life as refugees but also help rescue his son, Dia, from an even worse fate as a child soldier.

Archer, who has made his living trading diamonds for arms, learns of Solomon's hidden stone while in prison for smuggling. He knows a diamond like this is a once-in-a-lifetime find—valuable enough to be his ticket out of Africa and away from the cycle of violence and corruption in which he has been a willing player.

Enter Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), an idealistic American journalist who is in Sierra Leone to uncover the truth behind conflict diamonds, exposing the complicity of diamond industry leaders who have chosen profits over principles. Maddy seeks out Archer as a source for her article, but soon finds it is he who needs her even more.

With Maddy's help, Archer and Solomon embark on a dangerous trek through rebel territory. Archer needs Solomon to find and recover the valuable pink diamond, but Solomon seeks something far more precious...his son."

Capital X M6 X Dubai

Last week there was a TV show on one of my french tv channel called M6 about Dubai.

It's the investigation kind of people show Capital that broadcast something about "Dubai The Billionaires club".

It was a pretty good one even if it was very "cliche" because everybody know that now you don't resell your house on the palm the same way you did it 2 years ago however if you understand french it is pretty interesting...

For info to make it work it is a little pain in the a** but if I manage to make it work you can do it!

AF1 25th Birthday... Interview series

Slamxhype has done some interview with the rulers of the sneakers and streetwear scene about the Air Force One and it's pretty interesting.

I just copy one for you to have a look at the others:

AF1 25 YEARS: Frank the Butcher (WeeklyDrop)

Do you remember your first pair of AF1’s/Uptowns?

Frank: Yes, around 93-94. They were Navy Blue low canvas joints with a white swoosh, white sole… I had to hustle up the gwap, but I got it done!

What’s your favorite pair ever or top 3 (for those of you with AF1 addictions)?

Frank: My favorite pair ever were White high joints, light grey swoosh, light grey strap, white sole… what made them ill was the plastic tip of the strap and the little swoosh right above the toe box was Navy Blue! Method Man rocked them in the Ice Cream video. My man Fat Jon from the Bronx put me on to them in 95… Its the little details doggie. What up Fat Jon!

There’s been so many versions/colourways/colaborations of this shoe, how does it still manage to be the most popular shoe in this culture?

Frank: It’s perfect. Granted Nike wasn’t aware at the time that it would be the iconic classic that it is and even canceled production early on, but perfection stands the test of time. No ads, no re-design, no celebrity endorsements, just perfection.

Nike AF1 25th Anniversary or Adidas Superstar 35th Anniversary?

Frank: AF1 without question. Although I appreciate them, Shell Toes spoke more to the generation before mine..

If you could design a pair right now, what would they be? Colours, low, high or mid, fabrics etc?

Frank: That’s the thing about perfection, I don’t want to be the one who fucks it up. I am good with a clean pair of low White on White…

What do you think about the hype Nike have played on this event to this date, we’re only 3 weeks into 07 and it’s all we’ve heard about all year!?

Frank: The shit is, nothing has changed for me… I have been rocking them for 15 years without an anniversary party. If the 25th came and went without any special acknowledgement, I would still be rocking them.

Have you any thoughts on the cultural impact the AF1 has made?

Frank: The cultural impact is tremendous. It really put in perspective the power of Hip-Hop as a culture (sneaker culture IS Hip-Hop culture). The AFI has been an inner city / Hip-Hop culture staple for the past 25 years. No ads and no hype. I could remember when you couldn’t just go to Foot Locker to buy them. Hip-Hop made Nike and the rest of the world take notice.

Any thoughts on the impact this years anniversary celebrations will have on our already broadening culture and industry?

Frank: I am afraid that Nike will over do it. The shoe is a classic, the best selling shoe of all time with out any help.

"Man Develops $2,000 Halo-like Military Suit

If you participate in the strange art known as "cosplay," you should be forced to give up your citizenship. I don't care if you're pretending to be Link, Cloud or Master Chief. So take this guy, Troy Hurtubise. He spent $15,000 of his own money and two years of his life developing what amounts to a real life Halo suit. Sure, he doesn't specifically call it a Halo suit, but it has all the hallmarks of Master Chief's wundersuit: it protects him from bullets, explosives and girls. The guy even claims that the suit can be mass produced for as little as $2,000 a pop. Shouldn't we leave national security matters to the professionals like Jack Bauer? – Nicholas Deleon"

Rebelling against your famous art family by becoming a famous artist is a pretty interesting way to rebel.

"Chasing Dash Snow

At 25, he is a growing downtown legend, a graffiti writer turned artist with a beautiful face and a De Menil pedigree, elusive even to the two friends who created his myth. What happens if he’s caught?"

Well I haven't read everything but if you want to know the new X, Y or Z of the artistic NY and worldwide scene... just go and read the article of the New York Times

By the way is he doing T-Shirt and collab with Nike already? Just kidding...

Keep it real!

Iphone the moovie...

Well I am still not really convinced by the Iphone of Apple even if I like the way it is done I am not sure it is such a killer however have a look at that to have your own opinion:

Henron Preston Blog

Mr Henron Preston is an American Guy that spend some times in Paris and some people that I met last summer talk one day about him and his blog on the website I am addicted to...

The blog is pretty cool and on one of his last post he wrote that and it is nice to hear...

"Denver? Since when did Denver earn its place here? If you are going to pick a place starting with D, I think Dubai would be a better fit as they are currently turning that place into an economic hub between the west and the far east." based on the pics on top...

Henron whenever you want pass by...

Back in the days... today...

Those kicks are a collab between Junya Watanabe (Comme des garçons) and Nike... The aim of those is to have a new product with the taste of a real used and vintage one!!

I really like them because they feel so real when in fact they are just out of their chinese factory or from the innovative kitchen...

Well done guys!! But not available in Dubai and pretty expensive by the way...

Drive time in ski Dubai...

Here is the best video ever!!! Me on my snowboard riding full speed in Val D'Isere with a beautiful -2 and about 1.5 meter of fresh snow!!

No joke, it is in Ski Dubai and was taken on my snowboard (Tuff after this New Year Eve party!!!)

The O.C. RIP

Well what to say or what to do (without the accent!) ?

The O.C. are cancelled on Fox because only 4 millions people are watching the story of the Orange County crew in the states...

Well I will miss this serie because even if it is not very intellectual it is a funny one...

R.I.P.

Mos Def in Dubai...

Mos Def was pretty much in Dubai those last couple of weeks and he is even hitting the news with a possible moove in the town... the reasons behind? "A desert princess called XXXXXX "

Who cares about the name of the lady and if it is the reason or if he just like hanging around in Bur Dubai...

I just imagine Mos Def starting increasing the hip hop level of the local crews and bringing his friend for giant gigs here and that would be good!

Anyway on top you can see a pic of him in the best party of NYE 2k7 in .... DUBAI and please receive my apologies Mos but this post is more a BIG Respect to you than a Ahlan info...

Back in 2006!! Offroad in Hatta !!!!

2007... no more streetwear?!

When the limited streetwear become "fashion Gucci like" and supreme take no risk because eveerything made is already sold I say enough for me...

Crooks and Castle, Stussy and Anything might be big and very nice but I don't want to be part of something that I feel to be too much HYPE at the time...

Put a brand with an other brand and you have that for some t-shirts or more:

Well for me no more for the moment... I keep my kicks but I will not run after everything because the piece is limited and overpriced because every follower kinda wanabee wants one...

If it rocks and I can have it ok, if I pay too much on Ebay or I have to sleep in front of a shop for it no ways!

Keep it real guy and stop this shit this year... everything is not only about the money...

Peace for 2007...

Happy New Year!!!! Bis!!!

Because I missed it (too interested by my friend smirnouff I think!!) here is the fireworks (part of it) in front of the burj...
